'60's British B-movie chiller featuring voodoo, the supernatural
and general dark arts. A comely young British teacher takes up a
remote posting in darkest Africa where the local juju man lays a
hex on her. She has a breakdown and is forced to return to the UK.
There, she takes up a post at a rural school where all appears well
on the surface. It turns out, however, that the place is a hotbed
of witchery and darkness and that a virgin sacrifice is planned for
the near future. The film was directed by Cyril Frankel, who'd made
Hammer's 1960 child abuse drama 'Never Take Sweets From a
Stranger', and the script was by Quatermass author Nigel Kneale.
Their depiction of sinister undercurrents in a pastoral setting
wasn't sinister enough for the BBFC, however, who only granted the
film an 'A' certificate. Hammer persuaded them to reconsider, but
this accomplished film still failed to find an audience.

British comedy starring Jack Buchanan and Greta Gynt. After
battleship Captain Mailtand (Buchanan) enjoys a large party in
honour of his next voyage, he finds two young women (Gynt and Kay
Walsh) still aboard the ship once it has set off. To protect the
trespassers as well as himself, he agrees to hide them in his
quarters but it proves difficult to keep them concealed with the
Admiral (Fred Emney) unexpectedly onboard, resulting in hilarious
consequences.
'I can't see! It's dark everywhere. What place is this? Where am
I?' Jeya was only four years old and was terrified as she tried to
peer about the dark and gloomy temple. Between the pillars was a
huge stone body. She shivered when she saw its face. This, she
knew, was Kali, the goddess of death and destruction. Why was Jeya
there? Who would leave a little girl in the dark like that?
Certainly not the God of love - he sent a woman to rescue these
children from destruction - Amy Carmichael. And she had been a
little girl herself once a little girl with long dark hair, and
deep brown eyes. Once she had even begged God to make them blue -
but he hadn't. And as Amy leaned over to pick little Jeya up and
rescue her from a life of temple-slavery - she was very glad that
God hadn't listened to her prayers. Blue eyes were not the eyes of
India - but Amy's brown eyes were.
